Croeso Pubs Continues Expansion with Acquisition of The Cricketers in Cardiff

Cardiff-based hospitality group Croeso Pubs Ltd has expanded its successful portfolio with the acquisition of The Cricketers pub in Pontcanna, investing £250,000 in renovations and retaining local jobs in the process.

This latest move brings the group’s total venues to nine across Cardiff, Penarth and Cardiff Bay. Croeso Pubs is already known for rescuing and rejuvenating struggling hospitality businesses, including The Philharmonic, which underwent a £1m transformation in 2017.

Michael Haygarth, Area Director at Croeso Pubs, said:

“We are thrilled to be adding The Cricketers to our ever-increasing list of venues. It is a pub that is synonymous with the west of Cardiff and attracts tourists, walkers and locals alike and so we want to offer something for everyone.
“It is a great location in a stunning Edwardian townhouse just a stone’s throw away from Llandaff Fields and Sophia Gardens and we can’t wait to welcome clients, old and new, to try out our special Croeso atmosphere when they visit.”

The business will also retain 12 jobs at the site and plans to create new roles ahead of reopening.

Executive Chef Jamie Newman said the venue’s new culinary offering will focus on value and quality:

“This pub is well known for its hearty meals and its warm welcome and we plan to build on that with our new menu. At Croeso Pubs, we celebrate all things Welsh with our produce and dishes… to create dishes that reflect the venue and appeal to our customers at a reasonable price.”

The Cricketers joins other strategic takeovers including The Daffodil, Blue Bell, and The Dock, as Croeso Pubs continues its growth trajectory — blending heritage with business sustainability and local impact.
