Major Incident Declared After Bus Collision Near Kidwelly – NHS warns

Emergency services are dealing with a major incident following a collision involving a bus on the A484 near Kidwelly.

The incident has resulted in the closure of a section of the busy route between the Kidwelly roundabout at Parc y Bocs and Llandyfaelog, with motorists being urged to avoid the area and seek alternative routes.

Police confirmed that officers, alongside other emergency services, were called to the scene following reports of a collision involving a bus near the Kidwelly roundabout.

A spokesperson said:

“Officers are dealing with a major incident in Kidwelly, following a report of a collision involving a bus on the A484 near the Kidwelly roundabout (Parc y Bocs).

“The road is closed between the Kidwelly roundabout at Parc y Bocs and Llandyfaelog, and motorists are asked to find alternative routes.

“Emergency services are on scene and members of the public are asked to stay away from the area until further notice.”

The closure is expected to cause significant disruption for drivers travelling through the area, particularly during peak travel periods. Diversions are likely to be in place while emergency crews continue their work at the scene.

At this stage, details surrounding the circumstances of the collision remain limited. No information has yet been released regarding the number of people involved or whether there have been any injuries, although we understand two air ambulances have attended the scene.

Kidwelly, located in Carmarthenshire, sits on the A484 corridor which serves as an important route connecting communities across south-west Wales. The closure is likely to affect local traffic as well as motorists travelling between Carmarthen and Llanelli.

Residents are being advised to avoid the area wherever possible and to allow extra time for journeys. Members of the public are also being asked not to travel to the scene, enabling emergency services to carry out their work safely and efficiently.

The incident remains ongoing and further updates are expected as more information becomes available.

Meanwhile, Heledd Fychan, the Welsh cabinet minister for culture and sport, recently addressed the bus crash in the Senedd, saying:

“Members will be aware of a major incident in Kidwelly following a report of a collision involving a bus on the A484 near the Kidwelly roundabout.

“Emergency services are on the scene and members of the public are asked to stay away from the area until further notice.

“The deputy minister for transport will update the Senedd members accordingly once further information is available.”

The Hywel Dda Health Board has also issued a statement saying:

“Our teams are responding to the major incident called as a result of the road traffic incident in Kidwelly.”

The health board, which covers the west of Wales including Kidwelly in Carmarthenshire, added that waiting times are “likely to be longer as we treat individuals with the greatest need first”.

The statement continues:

“Thank you for your patience and understanding. If you need additional support during this time, please help us to help you and get the right care in the right place.”
